I agree that a "literal translation has led many to view the world as fallen and corrupt". However, I think this literal interpretation is the correct interpretation. Because I think the Bible is very clear that human corruption was not meant to be taken in a symbolic fashion - but instead to refer to a very real state of affairs which we live in.
